ChatGPT’s advanced voice feature is a game-changer, but it comes with some unexpected drawbacks. I loved trying it out, especially the ability to interrupt the AI mid-sentence. As someone who’s always hungry for information, I found that voice interactions with a robot allowed for quick interruptions and efficient information gathering.
This setup worked great for well-defined research questions with straightforward answers. However, the feeling of talking to a live entity made me rush my questions. I realized that for more complex topics, I usually edit my questions as I write them, which isn’t as easy with voice input.
Taking in complex information through voice alone can be challenging. Unlike text, which you can easily reference back to, voice requires constant attention. It’s similar to listening to a Huberman podcast - while he explains mechanisms of action over audio, I often find myself referring to the written notes for better understanding.
On the flip side, the voice feature excels at note-taking and thought dumping, producing summaries I can revisit later. Still quite amazing.
Raw
- I loved trying out ChatGPT advanced voice
- My favorite feature was that I could interrupt it
- I noticed that I’m very voracious about seeking information and voice, espiecally with a robot lends itself tof ast interrupts and much more efficient information consumption.
- This was great when I had a well-defined research question, and one that would have a simple conclusion at the end
- But the feeling of talking to a person, a live entity that was waiting out there made me rush my questions
- I realized that I edit my questions as I write them quite a bit for more advanced topics
- It’s also hard to take in complex information in voice form, text lets you re-reference. It’s a little like listening to a Huberman podcast. He does his best to explain mechanisms of action over audio but I often consume that part from the notes. You really have to stay on, otherwise it’s easy to lose track.
- It’s also great for note taking and thought dumping, for producing a summary I can come back to later.
